Gurjeet Singh, 30, fatally stabbed the trio armed with knives and hammers after four men cornered him in an east London alley.
The Met confirmed that Mr Singh had been arrested for murder but had only been charged with possession of a knife from which he had been released.
He was found not guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court in August.
A source told The Times that CCTV showed Mr. Singh “it all went to Bruce Lee” as he fought for his life.
The aftermath of the Seven Kings massacre near Ilford on January 19 would look like a war zone.
During the bloody clash, which lasted 13 seconds, Mr. Singh produced a knife himself, leaving Baljit Singh, 34, Narinder Singh, 26, and Harinder Kumar, 22, dead.
The violence allegedly began after Sikh men, mostly workers, argued with Mr Singh over a trade deal and the money, the Times reports.
Mr. Singh suffered cuts to his head and forehead and a crush injury to his head which was reportedly caused by a hammer.
Louis O’Donoghue, 40, a scaffolder who was there shortly after, said: “It was just chaos.
“It was like something out of a movie. Terrible. It was like a bad day in Bosnia.”
The five attackers followed Mr Singh from his local Gurdwara – the Sikh temple – in Ilford after an argument the night before at a place called Krystel Banqueting.
Two men who survived the botched attack on Mr. Singh were sentenced in August.
Sandeep Singh, 29, a worker from Romford, was sentenced to four years in prison in August for self-injury.
He will be deported to India if released after exceeding his visa.
His brother Harpreet (27), the gang’s escape driver, was also deported after serving a 12-month prison sentence.
The group had waited for Mr. Singh to return home before launching their attack.
Met police charged Gurjeet Singh with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place before his acquittal.
In 2018, OLHI Richard Osborn-Brooks avoided charge after fatally stabbing Henry Vincent, a 37-year-old career con artist, as he broke into the retiree’s home in Hither Green, in the south -est of London.
The law says people in England, Wales or Northern Ireland can use “reasonable force” to defend themselves when a crime takes place in their homes.
