The cause of death is currently unknown. However, he was known to have battled kidney failure and suffered several strokes since 2015. He was recently hospitalized in Atlanta, although he was later released.
Born Robert Ross, raised in East Harlem and started rapping before he reached his teens. At 22, he created his first rap group, the Schizophrenics, under the stage name “Bacardi Rob”.

In 1996, Rob got involved with the Bad Boy label and appeared in a remix of 112’s “Come See Me”. The rapper stayed with Bad Boy until 2010 when he left and signed the independent label Down Duck Records and eventually founded his own Box and One label with Jemal Mosley.
While Black Rob has appeared on albums by Cru, Ol Dirty Bastard, Channel Live, The Madd Rapper, Benzino, Tony Touch and others throughout his career, many know him for his single “Whoa!” From 2000, which ranks 43rd on the Billboard Hot 100. He has released a total of four studio albums, including Life Story (2000), The Black Rob Report (2005), Game Tested, Streets Approved (2011) and Genuine Article (2015) ).

In 2013, Rob also ventured into television with a short-lived reality series called Come Back Kings, which starred alongside Ed Lover, Calvin Richardson, David “Davinch” Chance and others.
