Borna Barisic Biography
Borna Barisic (born November 10, 1992) is a Croatian football defender who currently plays for the Rangers of the Scottish Premiership and Croatia. Barišić previously played for Osijek in the Croatian Premier League.
Borna Barisic-club career
Borna Barisic was born in Osijek, in eastern Croatia. He joined the NK Osijek Youth Academy in 2003 and spent eight years with the site. After not joining the first team, Borna Barisic moved to the nearby NK BSK Bijelo Brdo.

After a single season at Bijelo Brdo, Borna Barisic returned to Osijek. In his first season with the first team, Barisic played 23 games in the first Croatian football league, which ended on 12 July 2013 with a 1-3 loss to GNK Dinamo Zagreb. Borna Barisic’s first goal for Osijek was scored on April 4, 2014 as the 88th minute winner against NK Lokomotiva. Osijek took eighth place in the 2013/14 season. The following season, Barisic played 28 games, scoring a goal and two assists for the left defense, while Osijek narrowly avoided relegation.
Borna Barisic-Dinamo Zagreb and Lokomotiva
Despite his club’s difficulties, Barisic ‘s performance for Osijek in the first season of the Croatian Football League in 2014-15 led him to become champion of the Dinamo championship and signed a five-year contract. Barišić made his debut for his new club against his former club Osijek on July 19, 2015. At the end of August, however, Barisic was loaned to Dinamo’s nourishing club, Lokomotiva. At Lokomotiva, Borna Barisic has played 19 league games and had two assists.
Borna Barisic-Return to Osijek
Osijek was bought in February 2016 by the Hungarian oligarch Lőrinc Mészáros and the Croatian entrepreneur Ivan Meštrović. It was the first time that the club had become private property. The new owner has identified Barišić as the type of player the club is said to represent. Young, talented and produced by the Académie des jeunes. Subsequently, Barisica ccepted the transfer and was appointed captain of his junior club. Barišić made his return debut for Osijek on July 23, 2016, beating Inter Zaprešić 2-0. Barisic has played 32 league games, scored a goal and helped seven times when Osijek took fourth place, the league’s highest victory in almost 10 years.
In qualifying for the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League, Barišić scored a penalty in the 1-0 win away from Osijek against PSV Eindhoven. Osijek would win the first leg 1-0 and move PSV out of the competition. Barisic played 22 league games, scored a goal and helped four times when the club took fourth place.
On August 7, 2018, Barišić signed a four-year contract with the Rangers after signing a £ 2.2 million contract with Osijek. Barišić signed after playing against the Rangers in the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League qualifying phase. After a first season injury, Barišić scored his first goal for the club after a free kick in Ranger’s first competitive game in the 2019-2020 season when he won 4-0 against Gibraltar’s St. Joseph during the first qualifying round of the Europa League.
Borna Barisic-International career
He made his debut for the Croatian national soccer team on January 11, 2017 in a friendly match against Chile. In May 2018, he was named to Croatia’s 32-man provisional team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but did not reach the bottom 23.
He scored his first international goal on March 21, 2019 in a Euro 2020 home qualifier against Azerbaijan, which ended in a 2-1 victory.
