West Mercia Police have opened a murder investigation following the sad discovery at the village of Worcestershire on July 12, 2019.
Mark Paul, CPS Head of Complex Cases, said: “The decision to investigate the accused was taken after careful consideration of all the evidence available in this complex case and determining that prosecution was necessary in the case. public interest.
“The alleged crimes took place between May 2, 1982 and May 5, 1982.
“The role of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a crime, but rather to make a fair, independent and objective assessment of the relevance of criminal charges.
“The criminal case is now active and there should be no reports, comments or information exchange online that could interfere with these processes.”
In July 2019, West Mercia Police raided a bungalow in a quiet cul-de-sac in Kempsey after the remains were discovered earlier this month.
Police opened an investigation into the “unexplained death” and linked it to the disappearance of the farmer’s wife.
In May 1982, the Worcester Evening News published an article about the disappearance of Mrs Venables two days outside her house on Bestmans Lane.
The article described police using a helicopter to search the banks of the nearby River Severn.
The Venables will appear for the first hearing in Worcester Magistrates’ Court on June 15, the PSC said.
