His death was the fifth death related to the January 6 riots in which a large group of Donald Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol as lawmakers gathered to confirm the electoral college vote for President Biden.

Police said Sicknick collapsed upon returning to his department’s office and was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Two other Capitol officials also died in the aftermath, both of whom committed suicide.

Sicknick joined USCP in 2008 and had also worked in the department’s emergency room.

“The entire USCP department extends its condolences to Agent Sicknick’s family and friends for his loss and regrets the loss of a friend and colleague,” USCP said in its statement.

After his death, a colleague from Sicknick told PEOPLE that he was a “good guy” who “believed in this country”.
