The mystery of the murder of a professional golfer at a Georgia country club deepened after police revealed that the other two men who were killed were residents outside the state with no known regional ties.
Siller, who was the club’s golf director and married father of two, did not play at the time, but went to the tenth hole after learning that the suspect was driving a white Ram 3500 truck across the course. .
Police believe ?
Siller was shot as he approached the truck which got stuck in a litter box. His body was found on the lawn next to the vehicle when the police arrived on the scene.
The bodies of two other men: Paul Pierson, 76, of Kansas; and Henry Valdez, 46, of California, were later found with gunshot wounds in the truck bed.
The truck the killer drove was recorded on Pierson.
Pierson and Valdez were from another state and had no known association with the area or the country club, police said.
It is not clear if Pierson and Valdez knew each other. According to reports from family friends, Pierson was in Atlanta on business.
Police have not confirmed whether the crime Siller witnessed was the murder of the two men or any other crime. Other golfers on the scene remembered hearing five or six shots.
The killer fled the scene before the authorities arrived and is still a fugitive five days after the triple murder.
The public security bureau at nearby Kennesaw State University issued a warning soon after the shooting, describing the suspect as a five-foot-tall Hispanic man with long hair, dark work pants and a white or beige shirt.
In the days leading up to the incident, Siller had confronted a man fishing on the golf course, and the man was so nervous that Siller called the police, reports Fox 5 Atlanta.
It is not known whether the incidents are related.
Police have released few details on the investigation.
“We know the audience has a lot of questions, the most pressing being why it happened; However, it is too early in the investigation to speculate, “police said in a statement.
Pinetree reopened the golf course Wednesday and Siller’s widow Ashley laid flowers on the tenth hole where her husband was killed, according to 11 Alive.
According to the club, the hole will initially remain closed for play.
Siller briefly interrupted class on Saturday to remind staff that the driving range would be used to light fireworks on July 4, instructor Corey Evans told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Evans said the club “thrived” under Siller’s leadership.
“This is the largest membership the club has ever had.”
The Georgia State Golf Association honored Siller with the words: “All of us at GSGA are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred today in Pinetree CC. Our thoughts and prayers go with Gene Siller’s family and friends.
The Georgia PGA also posted a statement on Twitter expressing its condolences: “The Georgia PGA section struck a tragedy over the loss of our member Gene Siller. Thoughts and prayers for your family and the Pinetree Country Club family. ‘
Siller leaves behind his wife and two small children aged 6 and 7.
A GoFundMe set up to support his family raised more than $ 620,000 as of Thursday.
His funeral is scheduled for next Monday.
