Candy Jo Webb Biography                                       Candy Jo Webb Wiki

A New Mexico woman was arrested in Florida this week and charged with killing her grandfather, apparently because she wanted his house on the lake, investigators said, according to KRQE.

New Mexico State Police say the body of 83-year-old AJ Harden was found Oct. 15 in a toolbox that was dumped in a garbage ditch behind a home in Fort Sumner, but that there may be been there ever since. August.

Police spoke with Harden’s granddaughter, Candy Jo Webb, 27, after they found the body and were told for the first time that it was in a nursing home in Texas. She later changed the story and named a nursing home that the police could not find.

According to a complaint that led to an arrest warrant for Webb late last month, she had told people that her grandfather had died in her sleep, KRQE said. But she told her boyfriend that she killed him along with Xanax and Ambien, claiming that he told her to do it.

The friend told investigators that Webb had received money from Harden and that she believed he killed him to take over his house on the lake.

Harden’s body was found in a grave in the backyard of the house where Webb’s childhood friend Robyn Abeyta lives and where Webb had previously lived. Investigators believe that’s why he brought Harden’s body there – he knew the owner allowed people to dump trash there.

Abeyta said Webb came to throw something on the grave in August and believes he put the body there.

“We never expected that,” Abeyta said. “Before they identified the body, she got scared and called me, but I still didn’t know it was her.”

Police said Harden’s body, with her characteristic long hair, was wrapped in black tape around her mouth and wrapped in blankets in the toolbox.

Webb was arrested by the Jacksonville, Florida Sheriff’s Office, where she is being held pending her extradition to New Mexico. According to court documents, a hearing is scheduled for December 4.
