Chris Dawson Biography Chris Dawson Wiki
Former Professor Chris Dawson is on trial for the murder of his wife after failing to finally dismiss the criminal case over concerns over the public relations process.
The 72-year-old had argued that extensive pre-trial public relations work, including the Teacher’s Pet podcast, had irreversibly compromised his chances of getting a fair trial.

The lapse of time between his wife’s alleged murder in January 1982 and her trial made each trial necessarily unfair, he argued.
Dawson pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife Lynette Dawson around January 8, 1982 in Bayview, north of Sydney.
The NSW Supreme Court granted nine-month residency in September 2020, but turned down Dawson’s offer to permanently suspend the case.
Dawson appealed the decision to the Criminal Appeals Court, which said on Friday that permanent stays should be reserved for “the most extreme cases.”
This happened when a trial judge was unable to do anything during the trial to alleviate the injustice, the appellate court said in a written summary.
While agreeing that the prejudice and the pre-trial pre-trial delay and delay in this case were “very serious”, it could be “adequately remedied or addressed by prudent instructions that the judge will give to the jury at trial is mitigated” , the court said.
Chief Justice Tom Bathurst also pointed out that a fair trial is not necessarily a perfect trial.
Fairness to defendants is a consideration, but so is the community’s public interest in bringing defendants to justice, he said.
The entire court’s reasons were removed in the interest of justice to ensure that Mr. Dawson has a fair trial.
Evidence and pleadings on appeal are also protected by a court order.
