A Magna family was attacked in a home invasion when the gunman Colton Skeet Wilkin-McBride threatened to kill the couple’s 2-year-old. Authorities responded to the 2400 S. 7900 West area on December 10 after receiving reports of a house invasion, according to a possible affidavit.

A resident told police he heard a commotion upstairs in the house. As he ran to see what was going on, he saw Colton Skeet Wilkin-McBride, 27, wearing a ski mask and pointing a gun at him.

The resident ran to the room where his 2-year-old was sleeping and Wilkin-McBride followed him, pointing the gun at the father and son.

Wilkin-McBride asked for money

When Wilkin-McBride asked for money and keys by passing through a closet, the resident asked him to leave, to which Wilkin-McBride replied, “Do you think this is a joke? blow up your son’s brains. ” declares by affidavit.

The resident told police he then took Wilkin-McBride’s gun and detonated it near the right side of his head.

As the man battled the intruder, the man’s teenage son entered and helped hold Wilkin-McBride down. While they were fighting, police reported that Wilkin-McBride called the other person who was with him during the invasion.

Police said Monique Briceno, 33, wearing a black mask, entered the room and shot the resident on several occasions. The man told police he thought he was dead.

“[A resident] said while fighting the man that his mask had been taken off and he said he was bald and had tattoos on the back of his hand. [The resident] said the man knew his name. but he never saw it. [The resident] said when the gun went off he was afraid for his life and that of a family member, ”the affidavit read.

The man and his teenage son were able to hold the suspect until the police arrived. While in detention, Wilkin-McBride reportedly said: “I don’t want to go back to jail”.

The man’s wife fought Briceno for the weapon. When she found out, Briceno allegedly took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the woman in the right forearm.

Wilkin-McBride refused to speak to detectives after arriving at the crime scene. The woman attempted to escape the scene using a vehicle registered Wilkin-McBride but was taken into custody. Briceno denied being in the house despite having a bloody nose and swollen eye, police reported.

Briceno was arrested on a number of charges, including aggravated theft, assault and major break-in.

Wilkin-McBride was arrested for aggravated first degree theft, aggravated first degree break and enter, second degree aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous second degree weapon by a disabled person, theft of a firearm or d ‘a second degree operational vehicle. Third degree assault increased, throwing object offense at officer and disorderly conduct, one offense, according to affidavit.

When he was taken to the Salt Lake County Jail, Wilkin-McBride is said to have urinated on himself and started to urinate. The affidavit says he removed his face mask and spat on officials and prison staff.
