Beloved British actress Dame Barbara Windsor died Thursday night at the age of 83. Her husband Scott Mitchell confirmed her death to PA News, telling the agency her last few weeks were “typical of her life” and “full of humor, drama and fighting spirit to the end.”

“Myself, her family and friends will remember Barbara with love, smile and affection for the many years of love, pleasure, friendship and glamor she has brought to all of our lives and for entertainment. she has given to so many thousands of others over the course of her career, ”he said, according to Yahoo News.
“This is not the ending that Barbara or anyone living with this very cruel disease deserves,” Mitchell added, referring to his wife’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease which she was diagnosed with in 2014. “I I will always be very proud of Barbara’s courage, dignity and generosity in the face of her own illness and I will always try to help others by raising awareness for as long as possible. ”
Windsor appeared in the comedy series Carry On and Sparrow’s Can’t Sing, which earned her a BAFTA nomination, as well as supporting roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and On the Fiddle. However, her most famous role was in the British soap opera EastEnders.
She played owner Peggy Mitchell in the long series with Ross Kemp and Steve McFadden. Her last appearance on EastEnders was in 2016 – the same year she was named lady for her service and charitable giving.
After news of his death, honors came from his colleagues at EastEnders as well as politicians and other leaders.
“Dame Barbara Windsor – a great British actress and tireless charity activist who we miss dearly,” Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall wrote in a statement on Friday.
“So sad for Barbara Windsor, much more than a great hostess and cabin star,” added Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “She stood up for the lonely and vulnerable – and cheered the world on with her own British brand of harmless and innocent scandals. Thoughts for Scott and all of his family and friends.”
Actor Larry Lamb, who played Peggy Archie’s husband on EastEnders, told BBC Radio 5 his former co-star was “an amazing woman”.
“Everyone [at EastEnders] looked at her – which wasn’t that easy physically, she was so small,” he says. “But she was an extraordinary, extraordinary woman and a great loss.”
