An unknown assailant disguised as a Federal Express delivery driver killed Daniel Anderl, 20-year-old son of Justice Esther Salas, and shot her 63-year-old husband, Mark Anderl, at the North Brunswick estate, at about 5 pm. officials told The New Jersey Globe.

Salas – who was in the basement of the house at the time of the attack – was not injured.

Sources told ABC News that the judge’s son, a student at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., opened the door and was immediately punched.

“He was shot in the heart,” said the mayor of northern Brunswick, Francis “Mac” Womack.

A friend told NJ.com that the young man planned to go to law school.

“He had his whole future ahead of him,” said friend Joe Mauro.

Teresa Giudice the star of “Real Housewives of New Jersey

Salas – who sentenced Teresa Giudice the star of “Real Housewives of New Jersey” to more than a year in prison for fraud in 2014 – served as a judge at the US District Court in Newark for nine years. She was also responsible for several other prominent cases, including those involving street gang leaders.

In 2017, she banned federal prosecutors from seeking the death penalty against a suspected gang leader accused of several murders. She then sentenced him to 45 years in prison.

It was not immediately clear, according to The Globe, who was the target of the attack, but Salas had recently received threats.

The sniper was on the run on Sunday night, while a massive police response was underway, officials said.

Newark FBI

The Newark FBI said it was investigating the shooting and looking for an isolated suspect.

Salas is the first Hispanic woman to serve in the federal state judiciary. She worked as a public defender and federal magistrate before President Barack Obama named her district court judge in 2010.

She recently chaired an ongoing lawsuit against Deutsche Bank investors, who claim the company did not monitor “high-risk” customers, including pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Governor Phil Murphy

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy called the act “meaningless” in a statement.

“This tragedy is our final reminder that armed violence remains a crisis in our country and that our work to make each community safer is not over,” said Murphy.
