The judge and a prosecutor will decide together at a later date whether he will remain in prison or be released pending trial.
According to judicial sources, Lignadis was accused of rape by two minors when the events occurred in 2010 and 2015. He has denied the charges.
Lignadis, 56, resigned as artistic director of the Greek National Theater on February 6 after reporting on his alleged behavior.
Reports of abusive behavior, sexual harassment and rape against several prominent Greek actors, directors and officials increased over the past month, prompting a #MeToo moment in Greece. The first to speak was Olympic gold medalist Sofia Bekatorou, who accused an official of the Greek Sailing Federation of raping her in 1998.
Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said Friday that she had asked a Supreme Court prosecutor to investigate allegations of rape and harassment in the theater community. The opposition accused them of trying to protect Lignadis, who was appointed by the current Conservative government in 2019.
