Dr. Ari Gershman Biography Dr. Ari Gershman Wiki
Ari Gershman of Danville was killed on July 4 near Downieville in rural Sierra County. Gershman and his son Jack were never in the isolated Tahoe National Forest and stopped on a fork when a man appeared behind his Jeep on an ATV.
“My father suggested we ask for instructions,” Jack Gershman told CBS News on Thursday. “The sniper takes a pistol and starts shooting.”
The teenager said he ran from the car to the surrounding forest and got lost. When he finally managed to call his mother, Paige Gershman, he barely had a reception and his phone was out of power.
“I said,” Where’s daddy? “And he said,” He was shot. “And I said,” What do you mean? “,” Paige Gershman told CBS News.
Ari Gershman died on the scene and his son spent 30 hours alone and lost in the dense forest, drinking from a stream, wearing only shorts and a T-shirt. He was covered with insect bites and scratches during his rescue, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
John Thomas Conway was arrested after a police chase on his ATV.
Internal medicine doctor
Ari Gershman, an internal medicine doctor, bought the jeep the day before the shooting to share his love of the outdoors with his two sons and daughter. He hoped to retire to the Downieville area, according to a GoFundMe fundraising account.
It was a difficult year for the Gershman family. Paige Gershman, a speech pathologist in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma six weeks ago, said cousin Marlo Meyers-Barer.
Police said they captured Conway, 40, in Oroville after trying to pass a checkpoint on an ATV. The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office said Conway poses an unspecified threat, and at least one police officer shot with a pistol and a police dog was released.
Conway was taken to Chico hospital, where he is recovering from a gunshot wound, the Chronicle reported. It was not immediately clear whether Conway had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf. Messages left at the Sierra County Attorney’s office were not immediately returned.
Moments before the murder of Ari Gershman, Conway also shot and injured two other relatives who survived, the office said.
Last year, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office listed Conway as one of its most wanted fugitives, as he had pending warrants for vandalism, battery and two terrorist threat charges. A judge held a mentally competent hearing and the case was allowed to continue, according to court records.
