According to the KTTN, Elizabeth Kilgore, 35, of Quincy and her husband were at the time in the middle of a bitter divorce and custody battle.
On the day of the suicide in September 2018, Lance Kilgore met his in-laws at a supermarket in Osceola during an alleged custody exchange for the couple’s two-year-old son. As Lance Kilgore spoke to his stepmother, Sanders, 77, shot him and committed suicide minutes before his Elizabeth Kilgore arrived in another car with the couple’s son.
The incident was recorded on in-store surveillance video.
Prior to her husband’s death, Elizabeth had worked at St. Clair County Jail, where she recruited two inmates to assist in the murder of her husband. She was released when one of the inmates requested.
Investigators described Sander as “terminally ill”, but it is not known what illness he was suffering from, KY3 reports.
Elizabeth was convicted of first degree murder for smuggling a dangerous tool into a county jail, access to bribery and possession of methamphetamine. She is expected to be sentenced in April.
