RCMP in Colchester County are asking residents in the Cobequid Bay community of Portapique to remain inside and keep their doors locked while they pursue an active shooter after an incident with a number of victims on Saturday night.
At 10 a.m. on Sunday, police reported that suspect Gabriel Wortman had been located near the Hidden Hilltop Campground in Glenholme, and are currently advising residents and motorists to avoid Hwy 4 in that area and to remain inside their homes and lock their doors.
Just after 10:15 a.m., Nova Scotia RCMP reported that Wortman was driving an RCMP vehicle with the number # 28B11 and wearing an RCMP uniform, and that he was on the move between Onslow and Debert.
Police first reported the incident Saturday night just after 11:30 p.m., saying they’d responded to a firearms complaint in the area of Portapique Beach Road, Bay Shore Road and Five Houses Road. Just after 8 a.m., they were advising residents to remain on lockdown and stay away from the area bordered by those three roads and the No. 2 Hwy.
RCMP said Wortman is considered armed and dangerous. Around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, RCMP tweeted that Wortman is currently in the Central Onslow and Debert area west of Truro in the vehicle that looks like an RCMP car and wearing an RCMP uniform.
