Gareth Cave, a scientist from Nottingham, invented a mask that kills more than 90% of the flu and coronavirus. The University of Nottingham, Trent, nanotechnology expert said the new masks will go into production in Nottingham in late November and are expected to be available in stores by December.

According to the Daily Mail, the masks will be available for healthcare, transportation, and food.
The new mask is said to use a copper coating that kills the virus rather than blocking or trapping it. The antiviral visor has a water-repellent outer layer that reduces the inhalation of disease droplets.
The mask is made up of five layers including an antiviral nanocopper layer. There is also a copper coating built into the mask that releases ions that kill the virus when they come in contact with it.
In tests, the mask is said to have demonstrated the ability to kill over 90% of coronaviruses and influenza viruses for seven hours and to have a filtration efficiency of 99.98%.
“It has been shown that the mask we developed inactivates viruses on contact. The antiviral layer kills the virus that was blocked by the filter layers, ”Gareth said.
“The challenge with traditional surgical masks is that they only prevent viruses from entering or exiting the mask. You don’t have an active mechanism to kill him when he’s trapped in the mask.
“Our new antiviral mask is designed to take advantage of existing barrier technology and combine it with our nanotechnology to kill the virus once it’s trapped there.
“We added the barrier layer on both sides of the mask to protect not only the user but those around them as well. By killing the virus on contact, it also means that the mask used is safe to dispose of and is not a potential source of passive transmission. It’s exciting to see how our technology advances and has a real impact in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. “”
