The Daily Beast reported Wednesday that Gracie Cox, who worked as an assistant costume designer on Connolly’s independent film “Gardener of Eden,” said the attack took place during the movie’s closing night in Manhattan. Connolly, 46, said through his lawyer that the meeting was consensual.
Cox recalled that on the set “Kevin was friendly and slightly naughty
Cox recalled that on the set “Kevin was friendly and slightly naughty, but I laughed and I didn’t take him too seriously”. She added: “I was not interested, but he was the director, so I was cordial. There was nothing that scared me, it made me a little uncomfortable because he was my boss. So not recognizing smiles or comments didn’t seem like an option. ”
At the closing party in December 2005, Cox said: “I had been there for over an hour when Kevin approached me and asked me if I would go with him. to smoke … to smoke, but I didn’t want to be rude. It was the first social scene I was with, besides being on set. He took me down a corridor until that I think is the VIP room. We were alone in this neighborhood, there I started kissing. I didn’t know how to respond – but before I thought about what to do, he drew me to one of those little stands [and] under his pants “and slept with her.
“There was really no chance of challenging or resisting,” she said. “It happened very quickly. I froze and I was in shock. None of this had happened to me before, in any way. I was completely surprised.”
When Cox returned, her boss, client Amy Westcott, saw that she was in distress. After the two spoke, Cox said, “Amy was immediately enraged and protective, then continued [Connolly]. Then they quarreled in the middle of the party, yelling at each other.”
Westcott confirmed the description of Cox’s events to The Daily Beast
Westcott confirmed the description of Cox’s events to The Daily Beast, which analyzed the emails between her and Cox. “I knew it was not consensual and I sued him,” Westcott said in an email, adding another: “I thought their ability to consent was impaired by alcohol.”
In a lengthy statement to the Daily Beast, Connolly’s lawyer Marty Singer said in part: “The incident with Ms. Cox was consensual and he categorically denies any allegation that it was an assault. Kevin understands perfectly Amy’s dissatisfaction with the consensual act that occurred between Kevin and Gracie 15 years ago after the production ended and they were no longer working together on the film. Kevin acknowledges the lack of professionalism on his part, but he vehemently denies that it was anything as well as a mutual consensus meeting. ”
Cox, looking at the connections of Connolly and powerful friends like Leonardo DiCaprio, had never spoken in detail of the incident, which occurred long before the #MeToo movement. “I want to know he is dangerous,” she said, “and I want him to go unpunished.”
