The neighbors said Guadalupe’s parents had had the dog since he was a puppy and he never showed signs of aggression, according to 7 News.
An officer called home after the attack said the animal was used to living with the family.
The Dogo Argentino, sometimes referred to as the Mastino Argentino or the Dogo Argentino, was first bred in Argentina for big game hunting.
Owning a breed is prohibited in several countries including Iceland, Denmark, Turkey, Ukraine, Australia, Singapore, and New Zealand.
Dogo Argentinos is also banned in the UK under the Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991 unless a court exception is granted.
Breed ownership is legal in most states in the United States.
The American Kennel Club describes the breed as “a pack dog that was bred to hunt game such as wild boar and puma and has the strength, intelligence, and responsiveness of a serious athlete”.
