The fire broke out Wednesday night while the family slept in the city of Yakutsk, in the Far East, Russia.
Firefighters say the fire in the kitchen started with a stove and quickly destroyed the log cabin blocking the exit.
The property had caught fire and filled with thick smoke when Gularna’s eldest son, 14, woke up from thirst and alerted his mother.
When Gulnara saw that they were trapped in a burning room, she ran to a window and broke the glass.
She helped her oldest son pass through the window and gave her her four younger siblings.
After evacuating her children, she was killed by a wooden beam that fell from the burning ceiling just before she could escape.
Her body was found by a fire team that arrived at the scene after neighbors called.
One of the children, a nine-year-old girl, was rushed to intensive care with burns and carbon monoxide poisoning. According to the doctors, his condition is moderate.
The other children, two boys aged six and one and a girl aged four, suffered cuts to their faces and limbs.
Experts say a stove malfunction could have caused the fire. You will now investigate the scene to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Gulnara’s husband, Aleksey Kostelnyuk, was at work when the fire broke out.
The man, devastated by the death of his wife, told local media: “My wife took care of our children. I don’t know how to do it without it.
The victim’s older sister, Anastasia, said: “My mother called me around 4 am. She told me that Gulnara was gone.
“We told the younger children that I was in the hospital. We don’t want to traumatize them.
“The older boy is still in shock. His mother died before him. It does not speak and does everything automatically.
“Go see a psychologist next week.”
Grieving parents say that Gulnara will be buried tomorrow.
