The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation two weeks after the bodies were found. Later, authorities discovered that Richard Murphy, 68, shot Heather Laca, 31, before handing her the gun.
John Seeber, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, told Syracuse.com that the couple was found dead in the shared apartment. He called the incident “murder linked to domestic violence.”
How Police Found Body?
The bodies were discovered on October 6, after a neighbor called 911 saw two people who appeared to be dead on the ground.
When MPs and officials entered the apartment, they found the bodies of Murphy and Laca.
At the time, the authorities announced to the public that they were not concerned about their own safety.
“We are not looking for anyone,” Onondaga County Sheriff Eugene Conway said, according to Spectrum News at the time. “His safety is not in danger. We regret what happened, what happened in this residence, and unfortunately we have two dead.”
The couple had been together for a few years. In May 2019, they posted on Facebook that they were married, but Syracuse.com could not find a marriage certificate for the couple.
