Ian Gray, 38, was arrested Thursday and is now on trial for child abuse, seduction and sexual misconduct with a minor.
Gray was teaching at Fall Creek Intermediate School at the time he allegedly “inappropriately touched” the sixth grade girl several times during the 2017-2018 school year.
According to court documents viewed by FOX 59, Gray initially molested the girl by touching her thigh, but “later she touched her breasts and genitals”.
The abuse allegedly took place during the shooter exercises in which Gray covered the door window of a small group room they were in.
The abuse reportedly started to increase, and started weekly before the girl’s mother noticed “a drastic change” in her behavior.
According to the girl’s mother, the 12-year-old began harming herself and acting.
She says Gray told other students that the girl was a “bad influence” and that they shouldn’t be friends with her.
Gray graduated from Fall Creek Intermediate School Gray at the end of the 2017-2018 year.
He had reportedly taught there for more than a decade, but the then director says he did not suspect any Gray of improper conduct.
A school counselor reportedly told investigators that she remembered the girl refusing to go to Gray’s class because he was “too hard on her”.
The girl did not reveal that there was any abuse.
Gray was given leave of absence in April from the school he now teaches. He applied to resign on Thursday.
In a statement, the Hamilton Southeastern School District stated, “We are aware that a former school employee has been charged with alleged misconduct with an underage student. We have worked fully with the Fishers Police Department since the investigation began and will continue to do so in coordination with the Hamilton County Attorney’s Office. ”
“We are a firm believer in protecting the safety and well-being of our students, and that includes working with the authorities to investigate allegations of wrongdoing involving students … is our district’s practice, not this matter to discuss publicly. ‘
