The Montana man accused of barricading metal police officers against officials during the Capitol siege has been in Kenya since January.

Isaac Sturgeon, 32, of Dillon, MT, was caught on cameras carried by police officers who allegedly picked up the barricade with other rioters and tore them apart during the Jan.6 incident, according to officers’ court documents. DC Metropolitan Police.

On January 16, the FBI released a photo from the video showing Sturgeon in a green jacket, green scarf, and gray hat, and asked the public for help with identification.

Two complainants called authorities who managed to find many of his social media accounts. He posted a photo on Instagram of himself surrounded by pro-Trump protesters outside the Capitol, wearing the same outfit as the camera footage on his body. This stems from an affidavit from FBI Agent Julia Chen.

Her Facebook account contains a photo of him holding a rifle that was released on November 28, 2020, the affidavit says.

Sturgeon flew to Kenya on January 24 and was not expected to return until April 5, but Kenyan authorities deported him after the federal government withdrew an arrest warrant, court documents show.

Officials met him at the gate on March 6 when he landed at JFK airport.

He appeared in federal court in Brooklyn Monday on a formal indictment in Washington, DC and was released on $ 250,000 bond.

Sturgeon, a lawn care business owner, addresses seven issues, including obstruction of justice, physical violence in Capitol Park, and disorderly behavior in a small building. If he is convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

More than 275 people were arrested for storming the Capitol during a joint session of Congress to count constituency votes and confirm President Biden’s victory.
