Krisinda Bright’s 22-year-old daughter, Jasmine Cannady, and 16-year-old son, Jeffrey Bright, were found dead in the family home.

A 48-year-old Pennsylvania woman was arrested and charged with the fatal murder of her children.

The Ambridge Police Department received a call around 1:30 p.m. of Monday. Acting Police Chief John DeLuca said of a shooting in the 900 block of Maplewood Avenue.

Suspect Arrested

Krisinda Bright was arrested after police found her daughter Jasmine Cannady, 22, and hers, son Jeffrey Bright, 16, dead in the family home.

“It was a terrible scene,” DeLuca told reporters at a news conference Monday.

In a criminal complaint, police officers said Bright told 911 operators that she shot her children and she left the gun on the dining room table, the Pittsburgh Tribune review reported.

When police arrived on the scene, according to the complaint, Bright was waiting for them on the porch with dried blood on his hands, arms and clothing.

Bright then told investigators that she shot Jasmine before pointing her gun at Jeffrey, who, according to the complaint, pleaded, “Please don’t shoot, I’ll call the police.”

When the gun failed to fire, Bright told police that she had “fixed” the trigger before shooting the teen in the face, according to the complaint.

Jeffrey survived the shooting, according to the complaint, so Bright told police she fired again “because she did not want him to suffer,” The Tribune-Review reported.

Bright has been charged with two criminal murder cases, according to PEOPLE court records. She is currently being held in the Beaver County Jail, without obligation.

It is not known whether Bright has received legal representation to speak on her behalf.

The hearing was scheduled for March 2.

According to Beaver Coutian, Jeffrey was a student in the Ambridge Area School District.

He and Jasmine were both involved in PRISM, a local youth organization that supports members of the LGBTQ community, WPXI reported.

“Our hearts are very heavy and we suffer,” the organization said in a Facebook statement after the tragedy. “JJ was a beautiful person with the biggest and brightest smile. We will miss your smile. We will miss your lines. We will never forget you. Fly, JJ.”

In a separate article, the group called Jasmine “a gentle, shy and artistic soul.”

A vigil is scheduled for both Tuesday nights.
