In his decision, Showers cited the limited time the juvenile court has to rehab Goodale if the teenager is found guilty, noting that Goodale is serving the longest sentence in the juvenile system, six months after his 19th birthday. .
“The time for a juvenile court reduction to rehabilitate the defendant is simply insufficient for a crime of this magnitude based on the nature of the offenses described in the testimonies,” Showers wrote.
Police arrested Goodale and another teenager, Willard Miller, in Graber’s murder. Graber’s body was found on November 3 hidden under a tarp, wheelbarrow and railroad ties in a park in the city of Fairfield, and police say she was beaten to death with a baseball bat. Fairfield is approximately 95 miles (152.89 kilometers) southeast of Des Moines.
Miller’s attorneys also requested that his case be brought to juvenile court. A hearing on the application was held on Friday, but the judge had not issued a decision on the application on Wednesday.
