Young Melbourne Jesse Tait
Young Melbourne Jesse Tait was enjoying an after dinner swim with his family three weeks ago when his mother Sarah took a dip in the backyard pool and did not return.
Her husband, Warren, initially thought she was playing a joke with the kids before her young son suddenly realized she was drowning and kicked into action with a move he had seen rescuers play on Bondi Rescue.
“I realized I couldn’t get her out. So I turned her over and started pushing her onto her stomach, ” Jesse told the project.
“ I thought maybe there was water so I pushed and then water came out. Then she started to say “Help”.
Ms Tait fractured her spine in two places and is now recovering at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Center.
“I thought I was going to die at some point,” she told the program.
“Being face down and not being able to do anything, I just calmed down and thought that was it. He’s my superhero. ”
Mr. Tait thinks that his wife may not be alive today without his son’s courage and quick thinking.
“I’m not a religious person, but it’s a miracle that he knows what to do that day for nothing more than watching Bondi Rescue,” he said.
“My 9 year old daughter gave me 60 years with my wife. How do you pay a 9 year old for saving your wife?
Jesse was praised for his heroic efforts
Jesse was praised for his heroic efforts by Bondi Rescue Chief Rescue Officer Bruce ‘Hoppo’ Hopkins during a special video call.
“You might end up with a lifeguard after that. It could put me out of work, ” he told the excited youngster.
Jesse now says he hopes to save more lives as he gets older.
“I want to help people and make sure they are safe,” he said.
