A former Olympic gymnastics trainer committed suicide Thursday after being charged with s*xual assault and physical abuse of young athletes in Michigan, authorities said.

John Geddert, who had worked for years with notorious gymnastics predator Larry Nassar, was found Thursday afternoon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, local broadcaster WLNS reported, citing state officials.

On the same day, the attorney general denounced 24 charges against Geddert that could have put him behind bars for life.

Geddert’s death was confirmed by the Michigan Attorney General, who described his suicide as the “tragic end” of this terrible story.

“My office learned that John Geddert’s body was found this afternoon after his suicide. This is the tragic end of a tragic story for all concerned, ”Attorney General Dana Nessel said in his statement.

Nessel claimed Geddert used his qualifications as a US Olympic coach to convince parents to let their children exercise at his gym in Dimondale, Mich., Where Nassar was an internist.

However, the attorney general said his treatment amounted to “human trafficking” as the athletes were forced to work in “extreme conditions” which resulted in injuries.

He was also charged with two sexual assaults on a teenager in 2012, one charge of prosecuting criminal activity and one charge of lying against investigators who investigated Nassar’s sexual abuse of gymnasts.
