This is the 17th murder in the county this year, with three deaths still considered suspicious. The last Weehawken murder took place in 2006, when 18-year-old Jennifer Moore of Harrington Park was strangled in the now demolished Park Avenue Hotel.
Weehawken Police responded to a medical emergency at 561 Hudson Avenue and found Michelle Paola Castillo Siguencia unconscious in the bathroom. She was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m.
Prosecutors did not say how the 24-year-old was killed. Suarez said the cause of death was still pending, the state’s regional medical examiner found.
While weehawken police were at the scene, they received reports that Palacios had barricaded himself at a relative’s house in Union City.
The Hudson County regional SWAT team was activated, entered, and Palacios was arrested and transported to Jersey City Medical Center for self-inflicted injuries.
Suarez has accredited the Hudson County District Attorney’s Homicide Squad, the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team, the Weehawken Police Department and the Union City Police Department to conduct investigations and arrests.
