A Ugandan athlete who was training in western Japan before the Tokyo Olympics next week has gone missing. Local officials and police are trying to find him, the host city told the delegation on Friday.
Julius Ssekitoleko, a 20-year-old athlete in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture, was not found when a city official tried to find him to get his sample for a coronavirus test, he said.
A teammate last saw him in his quarters at around 12:30, city officials said.

The development could raise concerns about the anti-virus measures implemented by the Olympic organizers, who said athletes can only go to limited places and not come into contact with locals.
The Ugandan delegation arrived at Narita airport near Tokyo on June 19 as one of the first teams to travel to the host country of the Games, but so far two members have tested positive for the coronavirus.
All members are required to submit their samples for the COVID test in the morning, but the official did not receive the sample from Ssekitoleko by noon, according to the city.
After the two cases of COVID in the team, Ugandan athletes started training in the western city of Japan just last week after giving up.
