The couple’s young daughter was at home at the time of the incident, but she was not injured, according to the press release, and now she is in the care of other family members.
A representative for Fort Bragg did not immediately respond to request for comment.
According to family members who spoke to the Raleigh WRAL television station, Sarah was supposed to have her fourth child by Christmas and the couple planned to call little Isabella.
“It’s a total shock. It’s like a horror movie,” said Tammy De Mirza, Sarah’s aunt. “He had a smile that lit up the room, I can’t explain it. He was upbeat and fun, easy going and laid back and really had a mind and heart to help out.
“I love her and I refuse to let her memory be a sacrifice,” added De Mirza. “I will not leave her death in vain.”
De Mirza also revealed that Keith threatened his wife years ago and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. “This guy had PTSD. He went through two and a half years ago, exactly the same scenario,” De Mirza told WRAL. “As far as I know, he drank and when he drank he lost it.”
“This time he was lucky to escape, go somewhere, call the police and ask for help. When the police arrived, Keith [Lewis] was sitting there. in the backyard with a gun in his mouth, ready to commit suicide, “she added.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, police had been called to the couple’s home in 2016 for a marital argument, but no charges were filed.
