A firefighter is accused of stabbing his pregnant wife to death before killing her daughter while trying to protect her mother.

Konstantin Kapustin, 25, is said to have stabbed his new friend Marina Kapustina, 30, and Nikol, five, 25 times with a kitchen knife in Russia.

The terrible incident occurred two weeks after the couple got married at the family home in the northwestern city of Vologda.

Kapustin had presented herself as a loving partner, but began drinking several days after their marriage, a court said.

After Marina got fed up with her drink, she started ignoring him.

A video shows Kapustin telling the detectives, “I came home and she didn’t say hello to me. I got angry. She went into the kitchen and took the bigger knife.”

Kapustin, apparently drunk at the time, is said to have attacked Marina with the gun in front of little Nikol.

The man hit his wife seven times with the knife and then assaulted the girl, who ran to her mother and protected her with her body, investigators said.

Kapustin stabbed the young girl 18 times before spraying gasoline on the two victims and leaving them at home as they tried to destroy the evidence.

Police spokesperson Natalia Letenkova said: “Investigations showed that the victims were killed by multiple stab wounds on the upper body. The woman was pregnant at the time of the crime.

“The forensic scientists also said the girl was still alive when the suspect set her home on fire.”

Kapustin confessed to killing his mother and baby during police interrogation.

Marina Kapustina’s grieving father, Mikhail Maklakov, told local media: “I have lost my daughter and granddaughter.

“All over the world I loved her the most. Now I don’t know what to live for. “”

He faces life imprisonment if convicted of murder, committed with particular cruelty. The process continues.
