Carl Mullenix of Plainfield appeared in Waushara County Circuit Court
Carl Mullenix of Plainfield appeared in Waushara County Circuit Court Tuesday following his arrest on Monday.
Mullenix was also charged with reckless driving, which resulted in Maryana Kranz’s death on February 10, reports the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune.
According to sources, Mullenix will not be in jail until the trial. The judge set the bond at $ 10,000 that he was able to release.
The allegations were detailed by the Wausau Pilot and Review.
Citing the criminal complaint, the newspaper reported that a woman from Oasis told police she was waiting for the school bus with her three granddaughters, including Maryana, that morning.
When the vehicle pulled up, the woman said she was looking for traffic in both directions before leading the girls across the highway to the bus.
Maryana was holding her grandmother’s hand and bypassing the arm of the bus when suddenly a van pulled out and hit the girl, according to the newspaper report.
Maryana was pronounced dead
Maryana was pronounced dead on the scene after being thrown into the air by impact. It landed on the shoulder of the freeway. One of her sisters was also injured.
Investigators also spoke to the bus driver, who confirmed that the truck suddenly appeared.
Mullenix reportedly told detectives he was on his way to a repair shop when he saw the bus, stepped on the brakes, and went to the passenger side of the bus. According to the complaint, he told the police that he then heard a “big bang”.
Mullenix reportedly told police he did not remember seeing people on the street as he approached the bus.
Speaking to the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune earlier this year, Maryana’s mother, Shannon Kranz, said her daughter was an adorable kid who loves dancing, butterflies, Jethro Tull’s music, and anything bright and bright colored.
“Whenever someone needed a hug, she would hug them,” said Kranz. “That’s the hardest part. I can’t get the only person I have to hug.”
Mullenix returns to court in February and has yet to cite the charges he has faced.
Information on his lawyer was not available at the time of publication.
If found guilty, he faces 11 years in prison.
