San Jose officer Matthew Dominguez, 32, was arrested Thursday for reporting an indecent crime in an April 21 accident.
“The alleged behavior is beyond nuisance,” Santa Clara District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. “Police respond to our homes to help victims of crime, not to terrorize, traumatize and create new victims.”
Dominguez, a four-year veteran of the force, reported to a home with two other officers about a call about a mentally ill person who was violent towards family members. After launching an investigation, Dominguez dispatched the other two officers to locate the individual.
He then touched himself in front of two female family members and exposed himself to his mother, authorities said. The victims fled and reported the incident to two male relatives. Dominguez was also displayed in the house’s dining room.
The department’s video shows San Jose Police Chief Anthony Mata escorting Dominguez out of the department’s Office of Internal Affairs.
“Last week I said if an officer violated public trust or behaved criminally, I would personally take him out. Today I did it,” he said in a press release.
The arrests come amid a series of controversies that have engulfed the San Jose Police Department in recent weeks.
Another officer has been suspended after being accused of exchanging a tube of methamphetamine with a woman in exchange for information.
The alleged incident has been under investigation since December, San Jose Police Sgt. Christian Camarillo told Fox News. He did not reveal the officer’s name or details of the case, saying it was a personnel matter.
On Friday, an off-duty officer was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving ahead of a two-car collision, The Mercury News reported.
Also last week, the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office confirmed that San Jose Officer De’Jon Packer died of a fentanyl overdose. According to the newspaper, he was found dead at his home in Milpitas on March 13.
Another officer is under investigation for allegedly being under the influence of alcohol on duty and working on a case where a 3-month-old baby was kidnapped.
The child was found alive and well the next day. On Thursday, Mata said he wanted to propose changes to the disciplinary process and that any misconduct could lead to a resolution as soon as possible, as well as a criminal case and the dismissal of a police officer. .
