Death of 14-year-old Molly Russell
A pre-investigation analysis of the death of 14-year-old Molly Russell has learned that a large number of “terrible” Instagram posts have been given to the investigation by the Facebook owner.
But some of the material has been written.
The teenager, from Harrow, north-west London, saw content related to anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicide before she ended her life in November 2017.
The Barnet investigation will examine how the algorithms used by social media giants to keep users locked up may have contributed to his death. #
Molly’s father, Ian
Molly’s father, Ian, was sitting in the courtroom.
Since the death of his daughter, Mr. Russell has advocated for reform of social media platforms and established the Molly Rose Foundation in her memory.
In a report from the Royal College of Psychiatrists released in January, he said: “Among classmates, pop groups and celebrities followed by 14-year-olds we find depressing dark material, graphic content for the self-harm and memes that encourage suicide.
“I have no doubt that social media helped kill my daughter.”
