His wife Amanda Kloots kept fans up to date by posting information about his health on Instagram.
Saturday was the 18th day of his calming down in the intensive care unit, Kloots told his social media subscribers. During his stay in hospital he had problems with coagulation in the right leg and was unable to draw blood into his toes. The blood thinners that he used to solve the coagulation problems affected his blood pressure and caused internal bleeding in the gut, Kloots said.
He is hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he lives with his family while performing in “Rock of Ages”.
“They let him take anticoagulants to coagulate, unfortunately the anticoagulants caused other problems,” she said on Saturday. “The right leg is amputated today.”
Amanda Kloots Hashtag #wakeupnick on Instagram
Kloots started the hashtag #wakeupnick on Instagram and asked the fans to send him videos to dance and ask him to wake up. Later on Saturday, she announced an update that her operation had gone well.
“He was successful, which is really huge because his body is obviously pretty weak,” said Kloots. “I hope he’ll just relax and rest.”
Her friends have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help them pay hospital bills and make their home wheelchairs accessible, Kloots said.
“I was really blown away, guys … I want to thank everyone who gave everything they can,” she said, crying. “It’s just overwhelming, thanks a lot.”
