A popular Mexican fit influencer Odalis Santos Mena and bodybuilder tragically died on July 7th after apparently undergoing botched surgery to cure her profuse sweating.

Odalis Santos Mena, 23, who regularly uploaded pictures of her ripped body to her 147,000 Instagram followers, was reportedly recruited by the SkinPiel clinic in Guadalajara to promote a groundbreaking antiperspirant treatment called MiraDry.

The procedure allegedly tackled excess armpit sweat by using thermal energy to remove sweat glands, which softened body odor and even reduced armpit hair.

However, the publicity stunt went horribly wrong when she suffered cardiac arrest after anesthesia. Mena died shortly after when the clinic was unable to use CPR to resuscitate her.

In love with the so-called antiperspirant panacea, Mena reportedly promoted MiraDry on social media and assured that the “sweat-free” treatment was safe and effective.

Police have since opened an investigation, with subsequent reports attributing their deaths to negligence stemming from the anesthesia reportedly given by someone who was not a trained anesthetist.

Meanwhile, coroners have attributed her cause of death to a combination of anesthesia and a steroid that Mena was taking, something the SkinPiel Clinic claimed it didn’t know about at the time.

The freak accident marks a tragic end for the muscular young woman, who often took part in bodybuilding competitions, most notably winning the 2019 Miss and Mr. Hercules titles and the Wellness Fitness Juvenile competition shortly before her death, Sun. She also reportedly graduated with a degree in nutrition.

Mena’s death sparked shock waves on social media when the Insta star’s personal trainer and friend Victor Gomez Carreno reportedly posted on his private Instagram account:

“‘Your actions in life echo in eternity,” he wrote. “I will take you briefly with me forever, there is no point in writing here what I feel in my heart @odalis_sm, I love you.”
