Residents said they were “shocked” that such a “horrible” crime could happen “at their door”.
West Midlands Police released the first image of the murdered Shannon as her family paid emotional tribute.
In a statement, her family said, “Shannon was a much loved daughter, sister, niece and cousin. She also had many friends who loved her very much.
“We will miss you all and we ask as a family to be able to cry in private in this sad time.”
Mr. Hoad remains in police custody and is expected to appear in Birmingham Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
Shannon was pronounced dead on the spot, despite the doctors’ best efforts, and police say her family is now being looked after by specialized officers.
A spokesman for the West Midlands Police added: “We are continuing our investigation in the area and thank everyone who has helped so far with the information and CCTV.
Neighbors living across the street reacted with horror to the murder on the doorstep and said they believed the property had been used as student accommodation.
A local resident, who asked not to be named, said: “People still come and go to this address.
“I think it could be used as a student residence. I have known the woman who has only lived there for a year or two, so maybe she was a student too.
“It’s pretty awful for it to happen at your door, we’re a close-knit community, so it’s shocked everyone. Her heart goes out to the families involved.
A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service earlier said: “We were called at 12:19 early Tuesday morning to report an incident at an address in Mount Pleasant in Small Heath, Birmingham.
“There were two ambulances, a MERIT paramedic and traumatologist and an intensive care paramedic.
“When we arrived, we found a woman. She was examined and suffered fatal injuries. She received advanced trauma treatment from paramedics.
“Unfortunately it became clear that nothing else could be done to save her and her death has been confirmed.”
