An eight-month-pregnant mother has died after her baby was reportedly cut from her womb in Brazil.

Pamella Ferreira Andrade Martins, 21, was found dead on March 17 at her home in the Nova Holanda neighborhood of the Macae community in Brazil.

A family member, who spoke to local media on condition of anonymity, said the victim was found in a locked bathroom and the door broke.

The young woman lay dismembered inside, her stomach torn and without her unborn child.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested as she entered hospital after presenting to a nearby emergency room where the deceased child was being held.

The woman reportedly told health workers in the unit that she was born and fell down the stairs with him.

However, she underwent tests which showed that she was not pregnant.

Local media also reported that a knife and razor were found in his pocket.

Police said the suspect claimed to be pregnant and was seen with the victim the day before the crime.

Pamella’s relatives told police the suspect said “he would have a child at any cost” but they did not believe he would be able to commit such a crime.

The young mother leaves behind a husband and a two-year-old son.

Police are investigating the case and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of the child’s death.
