UK policeman pleads guilty to kidnap and rape of Sarah Everard.

PC Wayne Couzens, 48, pleaded guilty to the kidnapping and rape of Sarah Everard and “takes responsibility for her death,” his family heard this morning.

At the hearing at Old Bailey, attended by his victim’s relatives, he was not asked to bring charges of murder.

The 33-year-old marketing manager disappeared on March 3rd after returning from a friend’s house in Clapham, south London.

A major Metropolitan Police investigation was opened and his body was found in a forest in Kent a week later.

Couzens was not due to appear in court until next month but appeared on video link at the Old Bailey this morning.

Jim Sturman QC, his attorney, said the subway cop hadn’t filed a murder report. Medical reports on the case are still pending.

He said: “Responsibility for the murder is also recognized.”

During the video call, Couzens sat with his head bowed and only repeated “Mr. Guilty” when charged.

Sarah’s family went to the court for the 20 minute hearing and saw her plead.

He will return to court next month, July 9, when he is expected to face murder charges.

A preliminary date for his murder trial is set for October.

Sarah’s body was found hidden in a large mason’s bag in a wooded area in Ashford, Kent, and was formally identified by her dental record.

Couzens is a member of the elite parliamentary and diplomatic protection team, a role in which he carried a firearm and a Metropolitan Police clearance card.

The unit, founded in 2015, is responsible for protecting government buildings and embassies as well as visiting ministers and heads of state.

As part of his armed role in protecting MPs and dignitaries, Couzens provided static security at large public events attended by high-ranking members of the royal family.

All police recruits are carefully screened for criminal records upon entry into the police force. To be accepted into the elite unit of the Westminster Army, officers must undergo rigorous firearms testing and training.

Scotland Yard referred the police station for the arrest of his officer and separately for police action following the disappearance of Miss Everard.

It was previously revealed that Miss Everard spent fifteen minutes on the phone and planned to see her boyfriend Josh Lowth the next day before her cell phone was turned off or the battery ran out.

Lowth, 33, who is MA Exhibitions’ chief marketing officer according to LinkedIn, raised the alarm when police were not hit as expected, his aunt confirmed.
