The suspect, the CPS. Raul Hernandez Perez, 25, of Naples, Florida, was assigned to the 500th Military Intelligence Brigade, he said.
Roth, an army veteran, was found dead on January 13 by military police who were conducting a welfare check at the request of a relative. She was buried Monday in Tampa, Florida, Stars and Stripes reported.
“Our brigade and our army are destroyed by Selena’s death,” Colonel Theodore Travis, commander of the 500th Military Intelligence Brigade, said in a press release Thursday. “We have expressed our condolences to Selena’s family, friends and loved ones. We ask you to respect the very sensitive nature of this tragedy out of respect for families. ”
“We will make sure that Spc. Raul Hernandez Perez will be treated fairly throughout the legal process, “Travis added.
The charges against Raul Hernandez Perez were brought under Article 118 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the laws concerning members of the US military “for the murder of his wife, Selena Roth,” the statement read.
Before leaving the military, Roth was a specialist in signal recognition. In her last days in Hawaii, Roth was an avid animal lover who raised dogs before she died and ran a pet care business in Oahu. She also spoke on social media about the sexual harassment and violence that military women face in the ranks.
At the time of her death, she had a Facebook profile photo recognized by Army Spec. Vanessa Guillen, a 20-year-old soldier who was killed in Fort Hood, Texas, last year.
“Vanessa Guillen is still my profile picture, not because she is too vague to change, but because what happened to her is an ongoing problem that affects us all,” Roth wrote in a January December message. “I know you feel old, I know you’re sick of it all, but don’t let her death pass without consequence.”
