Rapper Silento has been charged and arrested by police for killing his cousin in a shooting in DeKalb County last month.
DeKalb County Police said Monday they had arrested the 23-year-old, whose legal name is Ricky Lamar Hawk. His cousin Frederick Rooks, 34, died after being shot and killed on January 21 at Deep Shoals Circle.

Around 3 a.m. On that day, officers were called to the scene. According to police reports, a man called the police after his daughter, who lives in the neighborhood, heard gunshots and saw a body on the street.
Towers were found in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The suspect was unknown at the time. However, after a full investigation, investigators identified Hawk as Rooks’ cousin and as the person responsible for the victim’s death.
According to the police report, they were able to receive ring videos from various houses showing various vehicles driving away from the area. The video also took a photo, according to the report.
Investigators are still working to find out the motive for the shooting.
This isn’t the first time that Hawk, best known for his 2015 single “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae),” has run into trouble with the law. He was arrested for alleged assault in Southern California in September 2020 after he was accused of hitting two people with an ax, he previously told NBC 11Alive’s subsidiary KNBC.
The following month he was arrested in Atlanta for allegedly driving 143 mph on Interstate 85. Hawk told police he had to drive so fast because 10 cars followed him out of a club in Gwinnett County. The speed limit was 65 mph.
