Ten years ago, Forrest Fenn won a cult after announcing that he had hidden the chest somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. He inspired tens of thousands of people to look for his treasure, but the price has eluded everyone – so far.
Fenn revealed on Sunday in Santa Fe New Mexico
Fenn revealed on Sunday in Santa Fe New Mexico that a man, who wanted to remain anonymous, discovered his breast a few days ago. The anonymous hunter sent Fenn a photo of the chest to confirm his discovery.
Fenn originally designed the treasure hunt as a way to leave a legacy: in 1989, he was diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer, but managed to recover. He said he hoped to tempt people to venture out into nature and give them an old-fashioned adventure for wealth.
He listed the content on the website, claiming that the chest contained pre-Columbian animal characters, gold nuggets and coins, Chinese jade faces, emerald rings and other exotic items.
He hid the treasure in 2010 and shared clues about its location on his website and in a poem he published in his autobiography, “The thrill of the chase”. Fenn told New Mexican that some 350,000 people tried to find the treasure, some left their jobs to look for it – and some died during the search.
Now, the website showed an orange banner: “Fenn’s treasure was found in 2020 – the hunt is over.”
“I was under a canopy of stars in the lush wooded vegetation of the Rockies and had not moved from where I hid it more than ten years ago,” said Fenn, now 89 years old, in a statement on his website. “I don’t know the person who found him, but the poem in my book took him to the exact place.”
Fenn’s website suggested a number of possible next steps for the hunter who discovered the treasure, including how to sell it – or even hide it again.
Your only request: “Whatever you choose – keep the thrill of the chase alive and continue the legend”.
