Police said: Officer killed and shot man who fired on officers

SAN ANTONIO (AP) – San Antonio police shot dead a man who shot officers and set his trailer on fire, the city police chief said.

A SWAT team and other officers were dispatched to an RV park in northeast Texas around 9 p.m. After people reported that a man fired a gun in his trailer Wednesday, Chief William McManus told the San Antonio Express News.

McManus said the man began shooting at police with his trailer and eventually set it on fire. The man escaped from the burning trailer and was walking through the park with his gun, McManus told the newspaper.

The man eventually faced six officers. They exchanged shots, the man was shot and killed instantly, McManus said.

Police did not identify the man they said was in his forties, nor did they explain why he started shooting.

Firefighters doused the burning trailer and all six officers involved in the shooting were on leave, McManus said.

Police did not immediately respond to questions from the Associated Press on Thursday.
