Police said a murder warrant was issued against 21-year-old Tessa Knapp for running over her roommate Amanda Byers, 20, in the parking lot of the Rodeway Inn on Old Hickory Boulevard in Hermitage.
The victim, Amanda Byers, 20, died on February 5 as a result of the crash. Before she died, she told investigators that Knapp deliberately knocked her down after Knapp stole her money and other belongings, the police said.
The surveillance video of the scene shows a woman, presumably Knapp, walking towards a gray Kia Soul in the motel parking lot. Another woman who is believed to be Byers hits the side of the car. Witnesses heard them scream for the driver to stop, investigators said.
Police said Byers tried to block the car and was knocked over by the front tire on the driver’s side. The vehicle stopped for a while with Byers still under the car before the driver rewinded it with the rear tire.
An affidavit from the underground police shows that the vehicle has left the hotel parking lot and left the scene. CCTV cameras captured a clear picture of him as he left. A BOLUS was then issued with a description of the vehicle including license plate information.
Later that night, police were called to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Donelson Pike and Old Ezell Pike in Nashville.
Police said the driver collided with a light pole and the vehicle was disabled in the middle of the road. Officers found the vehicle at the scene and determined that the license plate matched that of the vehicle that hit Byers. The officers located the driver Knapp as he drove away from the crash site. Officers say he was carrying bags.
She was taken into custody, and officials said Knapp wore the same clothes she wore on surveillance videos that day. The affidavit states that the backpack in his possession contained personal documents and bottles of prescription medicine marked with Byers’ name.
