“These people are hijacking legitimate companies that are protected by the first amendment,” said Raymond Duda, special agent for the FBI’s Seattle office. “By investigating this violent activity, messages of peaceful protest are more likely to be heard.”
The video of the chaotic scene shows a man using glass containers of flammable material and a wick to burn two police vehicles in Seattle. Jackson was identified as a possible suspect after authorities received an anonymous tip.
In one video he threw a Molotov cocktail at a vehicle, while another video shows him throwing a glass bottle with a wick.
A second Molotov cocktail was thrown on the police windshield before ricocheting and catching fire on the street near a Nordstrom store, prosecutors said.
Cell phone recordings put him on the scene at the time of the fires, the Justice Department said. Jackson is also said to have searched online for how to make Molotov cocktails. He can expect up to 30 years in prison.
