Santa Clara prosecutors said Monday that a grand jury had indicted the 50-year-old man and two officers from the sheriff’s office.
Rick Sung, 48, County Sheriff, and James Jensen, 43, Sheriff Captain, are charged with seeking bribes for secret gun licenses.
Moyer’s attorney, Ed Swanson, said he was innocent. Apple said it conducted its own investigation and found no wrongdoing.
Swanson said Moyer applied for gun licenses to some Apple security guards to protect executives and employees following shootings at other Silicon Valley tech companies, such as an incident at YouTube’s headquarters in 2018.
“They went through the process as planned,” he said, adding that the iPad donations had nothing to do with entitlements.
According to state law, it is illegal to carry hidden firearms without a permit, so-called CWW licenses.
Santa Clara prosecutors say the two officers failed to give Apple covert gun licenses until Moyer picks up a donation at the sheriff’s office.
The “pledged gift” was “sunk at the last minute” in August 2019 when Sung and Moyer learned of the existence of a search warrant to confiscate weapons license documents hidden in the sheriff’s office. according to a press release. from the prosecutor.
If the accused are found guilty, they can be sentenced to prison terms.
