Timothy Williams, a New York woman fainted when she said that the police solved the murder of her 14-year-old daughter in 1984 through family DNA research.
Rochester Police announced on Friday that 56-year-old Timothy Williams, from Melbourne, Florida, had been arrested on charges of murder following the death of Wendy Jerome nearly 36 years ago.
“It’s over,” shouted mother Marlene Jerome. “It’s finally over. Our family can live their life.”
Wendy acted wildly on Thanksgiving in 1984 when she never came home after giving her best friend a birthday card.

The police found her body near a large garbage can. They said he died brutally.
“To be honest, the extent of the injuries is too dire to speak of here,” said the Rochester Police Captain. Frank Umbrino said at a press conference.
The New York State Crime Lab said Williams was a suspect after uploading DNA from a crime scene to a database and providing profiles of family members.

A previous search of the FBI’s criminal DNA database did not yield any results.
Williams was arrested on Wednesday at his home in Florida. He was imprisoned and waived his extradition to New York.
Umbrino said Williams grew up in Rochester, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. She was a stranger to Wendy and her family.
Jerome said he never thought he would see this day.
“I wish my husband could see this,” he said. “He died in 2011. I know he was smiling with him there.”
