Around 100 police officers are combing the German Black Forest with the help of special forces, helicopters and sniffer dogs in search of 31-year-old Yves Etienne Rausch.
German media have dubbed “Forest Rambo” Rausch – whose officials fear carrying a bow and arrow.
Yves Etienne Rausch Incident Detail
On Sunday morning, Rausch “suddenly and completely unexpectedly” shot police officers who carried out an identity check in a cabin near Oppenau, Germany, with a gun.
He had the weapons surrendered by the police before fleeing.
Oppenau police warned local residents to stay home and not to hitchhike.
Authorities said Rausch carried several guns and was known to be violent.
Yves Etienne Rausch Threatened to police with gun
Sunday morning, four police officers were sent to a cabin in the woods, after information from a suspicious man.
The suspect first cooperated, but suddenly threatened them with a gun, leaving the police “no time to respond to the dangerous situation,” said the police.
The man asked the officers to surrender their weapons before fleeing, “presumably” taking their firearms with him.
No one was injured in the incident near the German border with France.
The man is said to have lived above a local guest house for three years before being evicted for not paying his rent a year ago, said Bild.
He had sporadic jobs as a railroader and goalkeeper on a golf course, said a former neighbor, describing him as “not an easy person”.
Several firearms and gas cans were found in his apartment after his eviction, in addition to a small shooting range in the attic, reports said.
Why Yves Etienne Rausch Spent some time in his car?
It is understood that he spent some time in his car at the local swimming pool before settling in the cabin on the edge of the forest.
He spent time in prison for shooting his girlfriend with a bow and arrow, local media reported.
A police spokesman reportedly said the man was in a “state of psychiatric emergency” and should not be approached.
The police weapons were P2000 semi-automatic pistols that could hold up to 16 bullets each, according to Bild, which means the man could have an additional 64 shots at his disposal.
Rausch is described as five feet tall, bald, with a goat beard and wearing camouflage clothing and possibly glasses.
